Friday June 29 marked Paul Mitchell The School’s summer fashion show for 2012, Hair Through The Eras, featuring models with arresting student-styled looks. The students from this beauty school in Sacramento competed in one of three categories: diamonds are forever, vintage, and masquerade. Contestants were responsible for the entire appearance of their model, including wardrobe, hair, and makeup. After a star panel of judges (Justin Thomas, Nikki Ramos, Ginger Wong, and Orlando Gonzales) reviewed all the creations, category winners, show winners, and the crowd favorite were chosen:
Diamonds are forever – Danni Huttner Vintage – Gret Cook Masquerade – Elena Smirnova
First Place – Danni Huttner Second Place – Gret Cook Third Place – Morgan Patton
Audience Choice Award:
To reward their efforts, winners will be granted a number of days to assist in top Sacramento salons. There they will have the chance to see firsthand what it takes to work in a professional beauty salon as well as try out some of the skills they have been cultivating in the classroom (and just demonstrated in the show).
All proceeds for the show are being used toward a charity drive that all Paul Mitchell beauty schools are contributing to. For nine years running , Paul Mitchell Schools have been donating their time and talent to the annual “FUNraising” charity drive. Over the course of a three-month campaign, schools across the country organize bake sales, cut-a-thons, fashion shows, car washes, and more to raise the money one dollar at a time in a grassroots movement.
This year funds will ultimately be divided among nine charities (Morris Animal Foundation, Andrew Gomez Dream Foundation, Food 4 Africa, Children’s Miracle Network, Cancer Schmancer Foundation, Gary Sinese Foundation, No Limits, Magic Johnson Foundation, and Best Friends Animal Society). Originally, this year’s goal was $2 million, but through the dedicated work of thousands of Paul Mitchell Future Professionals, the campaign has already raised $2.5 million — a record-breaking amount! This allows campaigners to give even more funding to the chosen organizations than previously pledged. On top of that, $100,000 will be given to other organizations that serve beauty-related causes.
A special thanks goes out to all the volunteers who made this event possible. Their work has gone far beyond the walls of the Plaza Hotel and will affect the lives of people and animals all over the world. It is the devotion of everyone working together that gives this drive meaning and has kept it going for now almost a decade.
