Looking for easy ways to keep hair looking great this summer? We were too, so we checked with our top Paul Mitchell the School Learning Leaders from Campus, formerly known as MTI College, and a few awesome beauty resources, and we came up with a list of fun summer styles you just have to know about.
Try these women’s summer hairstyles for long days at the beach, while you’re out and about on the town, or for summer evening occasions where a little bit of glamor is on the menu.
Casual Waves for Summer
Laid back waves on long hair look easygoing during summertime, and they’re pretty simple to maintain. To get casual waves, make a middle part and then let hair air dry, or blow it dry slightly. Add a bit of smoothing cream to keep fizziness at bay, and then take 1-1/2-inch sections (starting in the front) and wrap them around a large curling iron. Curl at random, grabbing from underneath or on top. Finish with a mist of shine spray.
Summertime Big Curls
Summer hair is meant to be and look effortless, which is why we love big curls. To get this look, apply a volumizing mousse to damp hair. Let the hair air-dry or flip it over and gently diffuse on low heat. When the hair is all the way dry, create a side part with your fingers and then start wrapping hair randomly around a curling iron with a 1 or 2-inch barrel. Alternate with some sections going backward and some going toward the face.
Tousled Ponytail
Ponytails in summer shouldn’t be tight and tidy. They should originate from hair that is slightly curled or messy, and then be completed with a tousled look that looks easygoing and pretty. If hair is already curly or wavy, you can just gather it up and loosely pull it back into a hair elastic (at whatever height you want it). If you’re starting out with straight hair, then tease it a bit to mess it up first, or to give it a quick curl. Then grab the hair, pull it up, and secure it with an elastic tie.
Top Knot With a Scarf: Perfect for the Summer Look
Colorful scarves look gorgeous with a top knot. This summer hairstyle is fun for many occasions, and it’s easy to pull off, too. Whether your hair is straight or curly, just grab it and pull it up into a top knot. Secure with bobby pins if you need to, then pick up your beautiful scarf. Tie it around your hairline, with the knot at the crown of the head or at the nape of the neck. If you’re tying on top, tuck the sides in the band of the scarf. Tying at the neck calls for the ends to flow long and lovely.
